Gotham Scarecrow TV reaction

It was snowing and wasn't a Christmas special.  It always amuses me how on TV it seems to only snow for Christmas and New Years.  So I was quite surprised at seeing that, however brief.

I didn't do last week, I figured since Crane is getting a two parter it fits.  But in general I can't guarantee I'll be doing Gotham every week.

Maroni and Falcone need more scenes together, they're amusing Goodfellas.

I have a feeling whoever has Fish might have something to do with that Dollmaker loose end from the second episode.

Pequin and Riddler together were hilariously awkward, I loved it.

I was thinking we were gonna see Bruce fall down that cave to meet his Bat Dæmon.  But it didn't happen.  As I said before I would rather seem them end the show with the scene in the study.

Zettai Unmei Mokushiroku

One of the few things I see often leveled as a criticism at Utena is how repetitive some things can be.  Mainly the entrance to the Battle Arena.

For me it wasn't a problem, the music was so awesome I loved it every time it came on.  Even though I binge watched the whole thing in one day.

The sequence is often compared to a Magical Girl transformation scene.  And it does have aspects of that, which are played up even more in the movie when the same song is played as Utena is transformed into a car.

But it's also like a ceremonial ritual.  It has to play before each battle, just as in Pro-Wrestling each wrestler has to come out to the ring with their theme song playing.

More ritualistic then that even, especially when you get to the 3rd incarnation of it..  And the lyrics of the song do have pretty significant meaning once you understand all the layered themes and symbolism of the show.

So basically, no, it's not something I ever get sick of.

Additional thoughts on the latest PLL episode

If the thing about Holbroock and Internal affairs is true it means Tanner was suspicious of him well before what Toby told her. Which gives a new insight on things.
I think Veronica knew 100% Spencer went through her stuff. I”m wondering if she maybe even planned that.
That stopwatch wish reminds me of my old theory about the Time-Stone I mentioned on Twitter.
I maintain my theory that Bethany was talking about Ali's Twin
I'm starting to suspect that the writers now our wise to s never suspecting who the show official suspects. And that maybe Ali really is guilty. Especially if they are gonna do a 5 year jump.  But that is still only in relation to Mona's murder and/or being the current -A.  Not to whatever happened "That Night".

PLL getting back on Tract

I've been reluctant to admit that I was a little Disappointed in the last few episodes.  Since I'd proclaimed this my favorite show of all time about a year ago, and had been calling it the best show currently on Television for awhile before that.

The Christmas Special and the winter premier both had my on the edge of my seat as usual, but I'd after that I'd been finding the whole routine with Aly in Prison tiresome.

But this week's episode was an Improvement, now that Mike is the red herring rather then Holbroock.  Tanner being onto Holbroock the whole time also makes me feel angry about her reaction to Toby last week.

Their shaking up of the Romantic staus quo is also finally start to feel interesting.

Still the show is a ways away from being as awesome as 4b was.

Detective Wilden and Lecoq

I've talked about why my love of Paul Feval and Pretty Little Liars overlaps before.  Now I feel compelled to talk about the possible archetypal connection between the PLL character of Detective Darren Wilden,(and maybe also Holbrock who is possibly being turned into a copy of Wilden now, but I shall here focus on Wilden) and Feval's Lecoq aka Toulonnias L'Amitie.

The Lecoq of The Blackcoats is like a corrupt cop though it can be complicated to explain why, the development of French law enforcement over the course of post Revolutionary history is a long story.  Theoretically the organization Lecoq runs is like a Private Detective Agency, but so was the real Surette in it's origin.

Lecoq is among many characters of French literature partly inspired by Vidocq (or rather his embellished memoirs).  Vidocq inspired both heroes and villains. laying the foundations of modern Detective fiction in more ways then one.  Lecoq is the name of both a hero and a villain modeled after Vidocq.  In many circles Gaboriau's heroic Lecoq is more well known, so people might have assumed that's who I meant here.  Gaboriau's Lecoq is a prototype of Sherlock Homles so the PLL character I see as analogous to him would be Spencer Hastings.

Lecoq is also a creeper in a way that's arguably similar to Wilden.  Feval's narrative voice at one point calls Lecoq a "Cassanova" in a way I feel must be meant to be ironic.  From what we see women do not seem to enjoy his advances usually.  He and Marguerite were lovers but they were mutually and knowingly using each other for power like Caesar and Cleopatra.

In Parsian Jungle much of the story largely happens because of Lecoq's obsession with Julie, Andre's wife, but she was completely uninterested.  Fanchette also has a strong aversion to Lecoq, strictly speaking though there is nothing to indicate that ever came from him coming on to her.

As I look back on many Wilden scenes, I feel like I could definitely see Bryce Johnson playing Toulonnias.  Just as I can see Vanessa Ray as Marguerite, besides Marguerite not being Blond.
