Anime Year 2025-2026

I’ve decided to make another try at doing weekly Anime Updates for a Year.

This year will be defined as April 2025 through March 2026.

And weekly is a rough estimate, they probably won’t come out consistently the day of the week, and if I’m slow in having interesting thoughts about any I may take 2 or three weeks.

To start with I am continuing the Simuldubs of

Loner Life In Another World

Guild Receptionist

And I’ll be bringing the last 8 episodes of Re:Zero season 3 once all of it has been Dubbed.

As far as Winter 2025 shows I finished before March ended, I may post final thoughts on them separately.

I’m very unsure what I’ll be watching for Spring.

I’ll be checking in on Detective from time to time but probably not consistently.  The most recent new episodes have been Anime Originals and now it’s returning an old 3 parter from the 500s that I can’t remember at the moment if it’s among the ones I’ve seen.

Haite Kudashi, Takamine-san is one I’m considering, believe it or not. Shows labeled as Ecchi are often contrary to my tastes, but one bold enough to use that as its main promotional image is worth giving a shot.

Rock is a Lady’s Modesty I’ll probably give a shot to.

The Shuiji Family Children I’ll give a look to.

Witch Watch and Once Upon A Witch’s Death interest me.

Oh and there’s 300 Slimes season 2

As usual though, my preference for waiting for Dubs means I’ll be behind, and so this series of posts will not actually finish what it’s meant to cover until deep into April 2026.  And also means it’ll be a few weeks before we really get started.

Shows that have been announced recently I'm hoping will air within this timeframe include.

Fate/Strange Fake

The new Nanoha show

A Certain Darkside Item

A Certain Scientific Railgun season 4.

Rent-a-Girlfriend season 4

Skeleton Knight Season 2

Classroom of The Elite season 4.

The World’s Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat season 2

Spy x Family season 3 is currently scheduled for Fall 2025.

Movies I’m waiting for include the Dubs for Princess Principal Crown Handler part 3 and the most recent Girls Und Panzer Das Finale episode.  The upcoming Madoka Magica Film.  And the new Detective Conan film coming out this month I probably won’t be able to watch till November or December. And maybe even hopefully the next Prisma Illya Movie.

I should also mention that I have stopped using MAL and am now using Anilsit and Anime-Planet.  Both have their advantages and disadvantages, Anime-Planet doesn’t include Hentai so that’s much of why my number is smaller there.

My Recent/Current Anime watching.

I watched Shirobako very recently, that's something I should have watched a lot sooner, it's very good, a 10/10 but I haven't seen the movie yet since it hasn't been Dubbed and seems oddly like won't be.

Demon Lord 2099 finished a few weeks ago I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I decided to drop  100 Girlfriends.  It's sense of Humor just doesn't gel with me, and it's gonna be awhile before it's pacing improves.

With both Arifureta season 3 and Re:Zero season 3 I'm waiting till all the remaining episodes are Dubbed to then Binge them.

The most recent addition to what current shows I'm watching is Zenshu, it's a very fun show and I think may prove to have a compelling message as well.

I May Be A Guild Receptionist, but I'm Solo Any Boss to Clock Out On Time is at it's best when it's going for situation that should be relatable to anyone who works in Customer Service in-spite of being in a Fantasy Setting about a Fantasy Concept.

Ameuku M.D. I've already talked about.

Magic Maker is a neat premise, the idea of exploring how to discover and figure out Magic in the first place.

Other current shows/Simuldubs I'm thinking of picking up but haven't fully decided yet include Loner Life In Another World, Headhunted to Another World, I Left My A Rank Party and maybe possibly Blue Exorcist.

Anime in 2024

There was less new Anime I watched in 2024 then 2023, but regardless I watched plenty that was good.

I started the year still finishing Fall 2023 as usual, including one show I didn’t watch any of till Winter 2024 because it was a HIDIVE Dub.

The biggest Winter show in my mind anyway was Gushing Over Magical GirlsDelicious in Dungeon was a show I enjoyed but I’m not as impressed with it as many others.  Metallic Rouge was pretty neat.  The Witch and The Beast was neat, felt like the kind of Fantasy Anime you could have gotten in the 2000s or early 2010s before Gamer Isekai took over everything.  But of Isekai in Winter I did enjoy The Weakest Tamer and My Instant Death Ability is Overpowered as well as the sequel to Tsukimichi.

Other Sequels I enjoyed early in the year were Classroom of The Elite season 3 and the rest of Jobless Reincarnation season 2.

For Spring the only TV Anime original to that season worth noting are the three Girls in Bands shows.

However on Netflix The Grimm Variation was pretty cool. On Hulu I watched Suicide Squad Isekai and Code Geass Roze of The Recapture, both were good but not as great as I’d hoped.

In Summer Shy season 2 carried on from season 1 well but I think season 3 is where this franchise will really take off. Quality Assurance in Another World was the basic Gamer Anime of the season and it was decent. The return of the Tower of God I’m reserving judgment for. Nokotan in my view lived up to its Memeable Hype, it’s just a rare example of one where I don’t recommend the Dub.

The big stand outs for Summer were its Romance Anime, some I didn’t even watch but the big two of Makine and Alya were awesome.

For Fall it’s mostly shows I won’t be able to finish till early next year.  The two Subs I followed were Acro Trip and TsumaSho (If My Wife Became an Elementary School Student) which were both great in different ways.

Arifureta I didn’t watch at all till this season and I’m glad I did, bingeing it helped me breeze through the early awkwardness. Re:Zero season 3 is shaping up to be awesome, and SAO Alternative is fun so far.

I’ll be a Villainess who Goes Down in History might be the best specifically Reincarnated as a Villainess Anime, but the best of the Villainess Genre broadly speaking is still I’m In Love With The Villainess.

[Update: I wound up stumbling upon Demon Lord 2099 and I have to say it's a pretty cool way to combine High Fantasy with Cyber Punk.]

Leaving Seasonals aside, I enjoyed the early episodes of Wonderful Pretty Cure but wasn’t able to keep following it.  For Detective Conan I’m pretty sure I watched every episode of the series that wasn’t Anime Original plus some others, and The Million Dollar Pentagram movies early in December.

And I got an early start on 2025 with the first episode of Fate/Strange Fake when it’s Dub dropped early on YouTube.

I was not expecting to be able to see War of the Rohirrm before 2024 was over, but then it was announced to drop on steaming on the 27th.  The movie is very good, I may have more nuanced opinion to express later but for now I highly recommend it.

As far as stuff that I watched this year that technically came out before.  The Sailor Moon Cosmos movies dropped which I got some enjoyment from but like the Eternal films felt rushed and like they should have been a Series.  I liked Maboroshi which I watched on Netflix early in the year.

It was during this year that on MAL I finally cropped 1000 Completed Anime and 10,000 Episodes.

Notable examples of older shows I finally watched are Nana, Mai Hime and Mai Otome, Durarara, Baccano, more than half of Tokyo Mew Mew and 4 episodes of D. N. Angel.  And I made some progress on other long shows on my On Hold list like Cardcaptor Sakura, Corrector Yui and Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne.

But I probably don’t remember all of them off the top of my head right now.  Though some recent additions are Gotta be The Twin Tail and Log Horizon.

And I watched .Hack//Sign before Christmas, it was pretty good and I may say more about it elsewhere.

I watched Pantheon on Netflix which isn’t officially Anime but it felt Anime enough to keep me engaged.

Update: I've spent a good of time on the last few days of the year watching more .Hack and Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle.

Fall 2023 was a Stacked Anime Season.

Since I started following Anime Seasonally at the end of 2016, it's been a notable special occurrence whenever I wind up watching 9 or 10 TV Anime from a single season to completion even with no foreseeable plans to potentially watch more.

For Fall 2023 I've watched 11 TV Anime to completion, with a few more I am still considering finishing later.  Plus 2 ONAs of comparable size to a TV Anime, and 2 smaller ONAs.

Only thing missing are any movies, but as soon as their Dubs are available I'll watch the Spy x Family movie and the latest Girls Und Panzer movie.

And hey that's just the stuff I'm interested in, there is at least one popular new show that season I never even tried an episode of and a handful of sequels to shows I'd dropped or never started.

Honestly it's a shame the Freiren and 100 Girlfriends have monopolized so much of the Anitube attention for that season.  The only Spy x Family YT video I've seen cover anything from season 2 is someone who's outside the Anime community.  Shy has a sequel coming up and I have thoughts on it I am still working through.

That season deserves some dedicated 1 year later revisit or something.

Seasonal Anime strategizing

I keep going back and forth in my mind on whether or not I want to start consistently waiting till a season of Anime is over to watch it.

I feel like any show that isn’t Episodically structured is ultimately more enjoyable to binge watch.  I often feel like I forget a lot of what has happened while waiting a week.

One of the things that keeps luring me back into weekly viewing is wanting to be part of the online conversation which often is part of the fun.  Problem is I also watch the Dubs which are for most shows a few weeks behind anyway.

Same Day Simuldubs have started being a thing for some shows.  But it’s not always a guarantee any of the one or two shows with that treatment will be among the shows I’m interested in watching.

Most of 2023 had shows with no Dub at all I took an interest in.  But it tends to be a few weeks before I even know which shows to give up on hoping for a Simuldub for.

There is one other factor, if a show interests me enough I may just be too impatient to wait. Right now I don’t know if anything from Winter 2024 will interest me that much.

Classroom of The Elite is a show I like and even defend against its haters. But it’s not one of my top tier fandoms right now, and I know from experience it’s a show best watched binged so waiting for season 3 to finish shouldn’t be difficult.  Unless it gets a same day Simuldub but I doubt it since season 2 didn’t.

The other sequel I have an eye on is Tsukimichi, I loved season 1 and am glad we’re getting more.  It too however I may be able to be patient for.

So basically right now I'm planning for Winter 2024 to try waiting for most or all shows I watch.  But I may abandon that plan, I have no way of knowing how I’ll be thinking weeks from now.

Update January 3rd: I quickly decided it's safe to assume Gushing Over Magical Girls won't be Simuldubbed since it's both HIDIVE and crosses a certain line of problematic Lewdness.  But I am intrigued to see where it goes.

Looking back on 2023

For starters it’s my second year as a Detective Conan aka Case Closed fan, the only Movie I hadn’t already seen by the end of 2022 was the one that wasn’t out yet, which this year I as expected had to wait till November to see.  I enjoyed movie 26 but it might be the hardest movie to recommend to franchise newcomers. This year was also big for Conan fans in getting 50 new Dubbed episodes on Tubi, and the Dub for movie 24 The Scarlet Bullet was finally seemingly just before Christmas for Digital Purchase on Amazon PrimeVideo.  And on the main show some long awaited developments in the main storyline.

For Pretty Cure, Soaring Sky I do think is probably the best show we’ve gotten since Hugtto but I wasn’t able to finish it for reasons that have nothing to do with its quality.

The Pokémon Franchise gave us both Paldean Wings and Path to The Peak which were each very good.

Lupin III vs Cat’s Eye was decent, and this year also had some movies I still haven’t been able to see yet, like the Sailor Moon Cosmos movies and the second SAO Progressive movie.

And outside the realm of Anime was the Willow series which I mostly enjoyed but Disney decided to bury. And from Star Wars I enjoyed both Mandalorian season 3 and Ahsoka.

But let’s look at regular Seasonal Anime now.

Winter had 9 shows I watched to Completion, not all as they were airing, plus two that finished then from prior seasons.  Two of the sequels were In/Spectre which is still pretty cool and Vinland Saga which was also good.

Tomo-Chan is a Girl was a fun RomCom, I’m not as into the main premise I think a lot of other people will be but I enjoyed it’s Kuudere character. I already made a post about her as a great new addition to the Kuudere Canon.

Buddy Daddies is a show in an unfortunate situation because I suspect it will ultimately be mostly forgotten in Spy x Family’s shadow even though I think it was a more overall satisfying show.

The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady kicked off this being perhaps the best year for Yuri since 2018.  It was a great show, very funny but also genuinely emotional.  And it ended in such a way where there is room for a season 2 but it won’t feel unfinished without one.

Onimai was awesome was awesome.

Uncle from Another World, Ningen, Fruit of Evolution season 2, and Rougo were all fun Isekai.

I’ll share my thoughts on both seasons of Eminence in Shadow up front here, it’s good but I’m not gonna be as inclined to list it as a favorite as some other people are.

The Super Mario Bros movie and Across The Spider Verse were both great western Animated films.

Spring dropped an instant classic with Heavenly Delusion which I do hope gets a season 2.

Honestly there are a lot of shows this year I haven't finished or watched yet but which I still might.  Like Tsundere VIllainess, and the second season of Tonikawa and Bofuri.

My Love Story with Yamada-Kun at lv999 was a very good RomCom Anime.  Dead Mount Deathplay was a fun new Reverse Isekai Premise.  Season 2 of Witch from mercury was also great but not something I have particular thoughts on.

My thoughts on Psycho-Pass Movie Providence I already tacked on to the end of my Dystopian Sci-FI post from earlier this year.

Yuri Is My Job was very fun as well, it kind of felt like a true throwback Yuri in the best way possible.

Mahou Shoujo Magical Destroyers is one of those shows that had a strong start but I don’t really like where it ended.

The main show I have complex thoughts on for the spring season is In Another World With my Smartphone season 2.  As someone who’s been season 1’s most vocal online evangelist since it aired back in 2017 I don’t like reporting that I felt disappointed by season 2, but I kind of do.  Part of it is how the Dub had to replace some cast members, but in a way that tried to keep people from noticing which only made those performances sound more forced.  It’s the kind of failed recasting I do not blame on the actors.  However I don’t think that’s the only reason I think this period in the story in the original LNs was perhaps a low point.  Also the confirmation that Leen is going to become one of the nine wives I don’t like.  I like Leen but as a mischievous perverted little gremlin side character, I don't think her as a main Waifu will work.

For another digression outside of Anime I watched The Flash and I did like it, but I don’t feel like going out on a limb for it.  My view that the accusations against Ezra Miller are pure Transphobia hasn’t changed.

The Summer season was pretty fun too.

Zom100 technically isn’t a show I completed but that’s because it’s one indefinite hiatus, it’s a fun show with blatant Marxist Subtext which I highly recommend.

Am I Actually The Strongest? Was another fun Isekai.

Liar Liar feels like a distinctly more light hearted take on the Battle Royal inspired genre, Death Game set up but without the Death, which it turns out appeals to me perfectly.

Rent-a-Girlfriend season 3 was great, the more frustrating aspects of the series were toned down this season to focus on our main characters actually achieving a goal and dealing with some real emotions.  I never agreed with the hate on the first two seasons but for season 3  anyone claiming they watched it and that it’s no better is simply lying.

Jobless Reincarnation season 2a was also good, don’t listen to the haters.

Fate/Strange Fake Whispers of Dawn was a neat little special and I wild definitely watch the full show when it airs.

For more non Anime digressions season 2 of Apple’s Foundation series was great, it massively improved on what I already enjoyed about season 1.  Now you have to accept that it's not Isaac Asimov’s vision at all, but once you accept it as its own thing it’s a perfectly enjoyable and interesting Sci-Fi show, perhaps the best the west has had since Caprica.

Dungeons & Dragons honor Among Thieves was also a more enjoyable movie then I expected, it’s the closest any Western Fantasy show can come to the appeal of an Isekai or “I can’t believe it’s not Isekai'' style Anime since it has that living in a Game world Vibe.  But without distinctly Otaku Elements has an even broader appeal.

Venture Brothers Radiant is The Blood of The Baboon’s Heart is a pretty satisfying movie, if it indeed is the send off for that franchise it’ll have been a fitting one.

The Fall season I’m most hesitant to even cover here since it isn’t over yet.

I did watch two Netflix Anime in October, Good Night World and Pluto which were both awesome, and then November had a neat Slime Reincarnation ONA.  Besides that there’s only 4 shows I’ve watched to completion, one I already covered up above.  There are a number of shows I put On Hold that I feel there’s a strong chance I will return to like Frieren.

I’m In Love With The Villainess was fantastic, another required viewing for Yuri fans.

Tearmoon Empire was also cute and fun.

16bit Sensation Another Layer was a great show with Deep Cuts for someone like me who's spent the last two years researching the history of Visual Novels and Dating Sims and related game genres.

For one last non Anime addition I saw  Rebel Moon Part 1 but I’ve decided to stick to Mastadon for expressing my thoughts on it.

I suppose Suzume can count since it’s not originally from 2023 but the Dub I watched probably is, it was good.  I could also add Kaguya-Sama: Love Is War - The Kiss That Never Ends, which was very good.

If I included everything I watched for the first time in 2023 but which is actually older this post would be twice as long.  A lot of them were via browning Tubi.TV.  Some of them I’ve already discussed in various Blog Posts.

If anything new is added before midnight on Christmas Eve I’ll add an Update.  In the meantime Happy New Years.

Update December 28th: Well I just finished BOFURI season 2, which also happens to be my 900th completed Anime.

What I've been up to lately in Anime watching.

I'm not going to be exhaustively covering everything I've watched since my last update, there's simply been too much  It's just what I've most recently watched and what's current.

I added to watched listed two early 2010s serieses, Cat Planet Cuties and Is This A Zombie?.  Both are fun but the latter a lot of Politically Incorrect humor that hasn't aged well.

I also finally watched the second season of the original Tenchi Muyo OVAs and did another rewatch of Serial Experiments Lain.

There are a few Spring 2023 shows I started but decided not to continue.  For three of them however it's not that I considered anything in them Bad their appeal to me personally was simply limited, those are Galaxy Next Door, The Reason Why Raeliana ended up at the Duke's Mansion and Sacrificial Princess and the King of Beasts.  The latter of those has a fun set up combining qualities of Beauty and The Beast with the legend of the Minotaur.  Raeliana looks great and has great performances from the Dub cast.

So I'm currently following 10 shows, only 3 of which I'm watching Subbed.

Yuri is My Job is doing a good job at producing Memes for the Yuri Fandom.  Magical Destroyers features a very Rage Against the Machine inspired Magical Girl.  And Soaring Sky PreCure has kept me watching longer then any PreCure series since Hugtto which is good.

For the Simuldubs two second seasons for shows from the past that I've chosen to praise in defiance of pretention AniTubers, In Another World With My Smartphone and In/Spectre.  Each is mostly holding up to season 1 though for Smartphone some Dub recastings are bugging me a bit depending on the episode.

For the truly new shows, The Aristocrats Otherworldly Adventure is the most standard Isekai and so I'm not really gonna recommend it.  KamiKaitsu is that was fun from the start but really changes the Game with the reveals in Episode 5.  Dead Mount Deathplay is another addition to the genre of Anime staring Villains who aren't all that villainous.

Gundam: Witch From Mercury is in season 2 now and it's still pretty good, most Gundam isn't able to engage me, so this is proving to be special.

Tengoku Daimakyou is only officially known by that name even for the English Dub on Hulu but you may referred to sometimes as Heavenly Delusion.  For this I am gonna need Spoiler some things I what I want to say next.  But in-spite of the negatively  of the coming Rant overall the first 4 episodes of the show have been pretty good.

Extra Anime Update

I didn’t think I’d be making the next update this quickly, but a lot of developments happened pretty fast after I posted the last one.

But first let me mention some things I should have mentioned last time.  On the subject of watching older Anime I’d watched Scrapped Princess, Fuuka and the Wiseman’s Pupil Isekai, and all of the Danganronpa Anime.  And the subject of things I waited for the Dubs I should have included Lupin III vs Cat’s Eye and Lupin Zero

Lupin III vs Cat’s Eye has dropped and I was a bit disappointed, this CG Animation style didn’t work with these character designs, and many aspects of the plot I found frustrating.  But it has increased my interest in eventually trying to watch the original Cat’s Eye, but I’m getting too busy with current Anime right now.

I decided to finish the first season of Fruit of Evolution and start season 2, it’s a fun show.

Then the Dub for Gundam Witch From Mercury started with no warning, I was caught completely off guard.  It started with episode 0 so the show proper won’t begin till the first Sunday of February, the same day the new PreCure should start.

At any rate for the time being I’ll have at least one new Anime to watch every day or the week.

Anime Updates Gaiden 2023 Begins

For the first update of 2023 I shall begin by discussing the Dubs I’m watching on HIDIVE which are actually from winter 2022.

The Eminence in Shadow is interesting, the way it was described on YouTube by Gigguk and Mother’s Basement isn’t wrong but it does take its time building up.  Tonally speaking it’s taking itself pretty seriously.

Each of the first 3 episodes feels like a pilot to a completely different show, then 3-5 feel like a proper miniarc.

I keep considering dropping in, not because it’s bad or anything, lots of shows I dropped I don’t actually see anything wrong with, it’s simply a matter of keeping my particular interest.  And thinking about that every Monday has made me realize that it’s kind of harder to make the decision to drop a show when you’re going week by week.  If the next episode won’t be for a week anyway I figure I might as well leave on Watching and see how I feel then, and then since it only takes under half an hour I typically have nothing better to do.  Deciding to Binge a show meanwhile could mean devoting the rest of the day to that show.

Reincarnated as a Sword has also been consistently entertaining but I won’t call it one of the best Isekai of 2022.

Akiba Maid Wars I’ve only seen 2 episodes of, it took longer to start, but it’s fun, I’m enjoying it.

Now onto the proper Crunchyroll Dubs of 2023.

Sugar Apple Fairy Tale had an interesting pilot, but I’m not sure I’ll keep watching.

Rougo Saving 80,000 Gold in Another World for My Retirement is a rare example of a show I’d actually read some of the Manga version of already, and this pilot lived up to my expectations.  I’m merely concerned it may wind up rushing things going forward.

The Ice Guy Anime I wasn’t able to complete the pilot for, it looks very well made, but once I could tell it was basically just a Gag Manga I tuned out.

Ningen Fushin feels like it’s trying to be the Anime Vox Machina, I didn’t like Vox Machina but I do like Anime.  I’m confused on whether or not this is an Isekai or not, the Idol being present isn’t explained in the first episode.

Bofuri season 2 started with a Christmas episode which was interesting.

Looking forward to shows I haven’t started yet, more confirmed Crunchyroll simuldubs I may start but I don’t know how for certain, it depends if any catch my interest.

Shows I’m still holding out hope will get Simuldubbed include Magical Revolution, Tsundere Villainess and Spy Classroom.

Starting January 28th a new main plotline arc of Detective Conan will start so I may actually be consistently following it week by week for a while.

When February starts I’ll watch Detective Conan: The Culprit Hamazawa once they’re up on Netflix.

And I’ll at least try to watch the new PreCure subbed which is called Hirogaru Sky! Pretty Cure, set to debut on February 5th.

End of the Year Anime Update

On Monday I watched the first episode of Eminence in Shadow on HIDIVE and today I did the same for Reincarnated as a Sword now that their Dubs are started, then I watched the 9th Detective Conan OVA putting my MAL Total Entries number to 1000 and my Completed list to 750.

Detective Conan has been a big part of my 2022 Anime experience, first diving in back in January, then going through another period where I focused largely on that show specifically.  I've now seen all the Theatrically released movies, a good chink of OVAs and Specials and more episodes of the show proper then I've bothered to keep track of.  A new episode should drop on News Eve making some Detective Conan part of how I'll end the year as well.

But I've also watched a lot of other stuff,  I completed Boochie The Rock last Saturday and returned Beast Tamer to my Currently Watching list.

Other stuff I've watched since my last Updates post include all of Jobless Reincarnation and The Hidden Dungeon only I can Enter, all of Kaguya-Sama Love is War and what was left of Rent-A-Girlfriend, and also Love Live season 2.  Also the third Girls Un Panzer Das Finale went up on HIDIVE, I think I'd already seen the second Princess Principal Crown Handler movie.

Looking forward for 2023 I want to further do what I talked about in those posts I did on Early 2000s Anime.  2003 is arguably the last year of the early 2000s so next will be the year of the entirely of what can be described that way turning at least 20 years ago.  I'll look for stuff I haven't seen yet to finally watch, but also re-watch some of what I already like and try to watch more.  Noir and Witch Hunter Robin are both on Crunchyroll now, subbed and dubbed so that should make each of them more accessible.

That won't be all I'm doing though, I'll keep following what's currently airing, a few shows I already know are on the agenda.  And probably based on when I feel like it watching and re-watching stuff from other eras as well.

I think I'll spend what's left of this year trying to test more Isekai Re-watchability as I mentioned wanting to do in my last post.

I'm finally more motivated to try .hack/sign again then I ever was before but it's not legally streaming anyway.

Update: I went and watched Orbital Children on Netflix before the year was over as well, it was good.

Also I was wrong there isn't a new Detective Conan episode on New Years Eve, it's taking the week off.

Another update on my Anime watching

To pick up from where we left off, I finished both Lycoris Recoil and Engage Kiss and gave both very high scores.  LycoReco is the kind of show that I think is better off not getting a second season while for Engage Kiss I'm very curious to see where they could go next.

All of the fall shows I was following I either dropped or put on hold for now.  Call of The Night I simply lost interest in  Spy x Family's Joke was starting to run thin but maybe I'll return when I can binge the rest of the season, Beast Tamers is still fun but I just don't feel like continuing it right now.   Taming The Final Boss however is the one I'm most disappointed in, it was good till episode 4, but durring Episode 4 they clearly rushed to the ending of the first Light Novel when in fact I feel this should have been fleshed to 6 or 7 episodes per LN like Haruhi.  Then in Episode 5 the new arc just instantly lost my attention.

However I've started a new show, Boochi The Rock which I"m actually watching Subbed, it's adorable and fun.

There are three Falls I am still waiting for Dubs for.  Two of them I have no doubt will be dubbed.  Detective Conan: Hanazara The Culprit has been picked up by Netflix and they dub everything they get, and there's no way the new mainline Gundam show won't be dubbed.  So the only real question mark is Akiba Maid Wars, I feel like there is still time for Sentai to decide to Dub it, but if they haven't by the end of the year then I'll try just watching it Subbed in January or maybe even right before New Years.  [Update: Sentai has announced an AMW Dub, we just don't know when exactly it'l start.]

But I also have stuff outside the seasonal docket to mention.  I already posted on the first SAO Progressive movie.  Before October was over I watched Housing Complex C and will going forward be adding it to my Halloween Anime Recommendations.  I have also now seen both already released Princess Principal: Crown Handler movies and the shorts that came with them, but I don't think I'll be able to properly form an opinion on them till they're complete.

Rumbling Hearts and Comic Party are both older shows I got into recently that I've already commented on in recent posts, and I highly recommend them.  Which reminds me I should link to my Mastadon account, I've talked about those shows and some others a lot there, last I checked the tags seemingly the only person talking about them there.
@KuudereKun@c.im

I've also watched a bunch of Galaxy Angel and Kodocha which are both good Comedy Anime, and I watched all of the original Nurse Withc Komugi which was awesome.

I've also done some retro Pokemon Rewatching and finally watched all of the Twilight Wings shorts on the PokemonTV App which I'd regrettably ignored when they came out.

I also rewatched both seasons of Selector _____ Wixoss and think I'm maybe finally ready to just watch the rest of that franchise Subbed.

Halloween season Anime Updates Gaiden

Well first of all is there any reason to update my general Halloween Anime Reccomendation from last year?  Not much, I've watched more of Karin but that's something I was already aware existed and just didn't think of then, and it's not on any legal streaming sites.

As for new or current Halloween relevant stuff, I've watched 6 episodes of Call of The Night, the ones that can be watched Dubbed on HIDIVE, a couple more will go up before Ocotber's over as new episodes drop on Thursdays.  It is enjoyable so far.

And that's it for Halloween stuff.

I've finished Lupin III Part VI and Classroom of The Elite Season 2 both of which were good but not likely to be shows I'd ever label as favorites.

I've also watched even more Detective Conan, now seen all the Movies but 25, and think as far as what's animated goes I'm pretty effectively up to speed on the main storyline.

I finished Magia Record as the Dub for the rest of it finally dropped and it's was as good as I figured it would be.

But let's return to the other currently airing Simuldubs I'm following.  There are five and they all happen to be dropping on Saturday on Crunchyroll.

Lycoris Recoil and Engage Kiss I'd already mentioned on this blog, they're up to episode 9 now and I like em both.  Engage Kiss deserves more attention.

Spy x Family's second cour has started and it's still fun.

Beast Tamers looks like a fun little show that is not an Isekai but may as well be.

I'm The Villainess, So I'm Taming the Final Boss is officially the second of the reincarnated as an Otome villainess genre to get an Anime, so the one we had before can no longer simply be called "The Villainess show" people other then me will have to start using the official shorthand Hamefura.

This show is very distinct from Hamefura.

For starters part of the joke with Bakarina is how she's not like the person who's body she's taken over at all, the actual titular "Villainess" kind of no longer exists when the Japanese memories awaken.  This new show's protagonist is a reincarnation of a modern Japanese gamer (I'm not actually sure what their original gender was) but still also is Aileen, she's still molded by the experiences of living that life.  I'm a Pretty Little Liars veteran who enjoys watching a Mean Girls be bad@$$ in their own special way, and so find this protagonist more appealing actually.

From the pilot it doesn't seem we can expect the Yuri that Hamefura has, but that's fine, I'm totally down to watch this girl Tame Anime Daemon Targyreon.

Update October 17th: I just watched the first 3 episodes of Housing Complex C on HBOmax, and they're interesting, got Higurashi vibes and Lovecrafting themes.

These Gaijin have Eastern European Accents in the Dub, but also seem to be implied to be Muslim, there are some Muslim counties in the Balkans but not everyone remembers that, so it's an interesting direction to take.

There is a character named Kahn.  I predict eventually some situation will cause a character to scream or shout their name loudly, and then there will be Memes.

3 Episode Test Anime Gaiden

Today I'm officially three episodes into the Simuldubs of both Engage Kiss and Lycoris Recoil.  Meanwhile I'm also deep into Classroom of The Elite season 2.  And the only show still airing that I was watching last time I made one of these is the Simuldub of Lupin III Part 6.

Trixie The Golden Witch has retired from Anitube, which is truly the end of an era.  Her contributions to Internet Anime discourse in 2016 and 2017 were a big role in making me the Otaku I am today.  She will be missed.

Among the very first videos of hers I'd watched were the How to Spot a Great Anime in on Episode series, which was her deconstruction of the 3 episodes rule, which are a good analysis of some Anime pilots but I still disagree.  Her core point was that the 3 episode rule comes from taking 3 episodes to figure out the Premise, but to her the premise of a show is what matters least because she can like any premise hypothetically.  But that's where I'm different.

I can see the quality in pretty much anything, if I drop or refuse to even try something it's because the premise couldn't hook me.  I genuinely would prefer to watch something highly flawed that I find personally interesting or compelling then something perfectly executed that doesn't.

And these two Saturdaily Simuldubs I've been watching are good examples of that.  For both these 3rd episodes core aspects of the premise of the show have been made more clear.

However Lycoris Recoil is a show that pretty unambiguously already had my undivided attention.  With Engage Kiss however I spend much of episode 2 last week feeling like I'll probably drop it if episode 3 doesn't change anything.  Fortunately it did, it's now clear this isn't a standard Love Triangle and I am quite curious to see what happens going forward.

As for the other two shows I'm watching, I may need to wait till they are complete to really comment on them.

I've finished a bunch of Anime I'd been watching

First was Legend of The Galactic Heroes :New Thesis season 3, which was pretty good build up for the next big battle.

Then the Trapped in a Dating Sim Anime which was fun.

Then Estab Life which was pretty good.

I watched Vinland Saga when it went up on Netflix, and finished Blue Reflection Ray a little later.

Then on the 9th I finished both Spy x Family season 1 and Tack op.Destiny which were both great.

With a new season of Simuldubs starting soon, I'm gonna try to wait till I can do 3 episodes tests to start anymore.

In the meantime I have four more shows I'm still watching, two should end this Thursday.

May the Anime be With You

Before I talk more about the shows I’m currently following, let me mention some stuff I’ve added to my Completed list.

I watched World’s End Harem, subbed since I doubt it’ll ever get a Dub, and it is indeed a very fascinating thought provoking show, one I may have more to say on in the future.

I then watched the movie Belle on Amazon Prime, it was an instant classic, I gave it a 10 out of 10.

And the second Fate/Grand Order Camelot movie was okay.

I also watched two somewhat older shows. Aokana has quickly become one of my favorite Fantastical Sports Anime.  And then 2017’s WorldEnd which was also very good.  WorldEnd is a Fantasy Anime that not only isn’t an isekai but doesn’t feel like one either, by which I mainly mean doesn’t feel like a Gamer Anime.  Such Anime has become increasingly rare in recent years.

I also finally got to watch the Prisma Illya Movie, Licht Nameless Girl, and it was pretty good.

I finally finished the second cour of 86, it was great.

Now back to the Simuldubs I’m following.

Episodes 4 and 5 of EstabLife were both very fun episodes, this show is a real treat.

Episode 7 of season 3 of LOTGH new Thesis was fantastic, everyone hating on the New Thesis for not looking like the 80s needs to get over themselves.

Skeleton Knight, Fruit of Evolution and Tsukimichi are all three proving to be perfectly fun generic Isekai shows, I hope they never stop making these.

The Executioner and Her Way of Life’s simuldub started on HIDIVE, and its first episode was quite interesting.  I’d been hearing about this one for awhile, so I’m excited for it.

Spy x Family is half done now and it’s still holding up well.

I can also now confirm that the first episode of Takt Op. Destiny takes place between episodes 4 and 5, if anyone would prefer to watch the show Chronologically.

The best episode of Lupin III part 6 so far was episode 4, Killers in The Diner, it was a neat little Lupin short story.  But the most recent episode aired on Toonami as of my posting this is the start of what could be a fairly interesting mini-Arc.

I’m also still enjoying Trapped In a Dating Sim, though I wasn’t able to watch episode 6 in time for this post thanks to Crunchyroll’s Beta issues.

Anime Updates Gaiden returns

Well since my last seasonal Anime update things have changed.

I dropped Love After World Domination during episode 2 and Shikimori during episode 3, their main joke tired quickly and were not quite what I was wanting either to be.

I finished both Land of Leadale and Genius Prince, the latter of which unexpectedly released all of the final four episodes at once.  Both were fun shows I gave high scores to on MAL.

Estab Life episode 2 blew me away with its amazing premise, and then episode 3 was neat as well.

Legend of The Galactic Heroes: New Thesis is still holding up pretty well.

I then added 3 additional shows for Thursday to my pile, Skeleton Knight, Tsukimichi and Fruit of Evolution, both have interesting starts so far, but I can’t be sure I’ll keep following.

Spy x Family and Takt op-Destiny are both holding up.  I also discovered Lupin III Part 6 is airing on Toonami so I don’t necessarily need to wait till Monday.

Trapped In A Dating Sim is also still holding strong at 4 episodes.

I'm following 10 current Simuldubs.

Kind of exciting after following very little for the last few months.

Now in the past when I've excited about finding a good number of current shows to follow, I've never actually watched all of them to completions.  And this could be the same, never underestimate the ablity of a show that had me impressed at the to eventually lose me.

As the title says they're all Simuldubs, and there are a couple other recent shows I might try binging when their Dubs are finished, I also intend to try Bubble when it drops on Netflix.  If I decide to try watching a current or recent season show Subbed it'll be either The Executioner and Her way of Life and/or World's End Harem.  But that shall not be the focus for this post.

I'm not promising a return to regularly posting updates on my current seasonal viewings, only when I feel I have something to say will this Gaiden tag be revived.

For Monday I'll be watching Lupin III Part 6 which I actually haven't properly started yet, but Lupin is a franchise I consider reliable.

For Tuesday I'm watching The Genius Prince's Guide to Raising The Nation out of Debt which has actually already reached it's second half.  What intrigues me most is learning the Anti Flahm Racism and how that effects this world's geopolitics, it could wind up being the subject of it's own post, or an important example for a broader subject.

I have 2 shows of Wednesday.

In The Land of Leadale which I learned has the same director as Isekai Smartphone, which to my pleasant surprise had a season 2 announced recently.  It's a fun show but don't' expect any think pieces about it.  It also only has two episodes left, so little chance I'll be dropping it.

Estab Life: Great Escape is my first time watching a show with this particular commonly hated on CG Animation style.  As I watched the pilot episode I got used to it quite quickly actually.  It's also got hella Yuri so I'm optimistic it could be the show to finally earn this style some respect.

For Thursday it's season 3 of Legend of The Galactic Heroes: The New Thesis, it's high quality as the show always was, I'm glad I haven't seen the original and thus can discus this new remake without a comparison filter.  Three episodes are out already and they cover some good stuff.

The Friday docket is Love After World Domination, it's a very fun and cute premise that should be appealing to fans of Power Rangers.

Saturday has three shows, not only that but all three drop deep into the afternoon, I'm sometimes asleep by then.

Shikimori's Not Just a Cutie is an adorable Romantic Comedy with some Milo Murphy's Law going on and some subtle Femdom vibes.

SPY x FAMILY seems to be the designated top Meme Generator for the season, so I'm glad to be following one only a week behind for a change.  Trixie The Golden Witch has a good video on the show but ti keeps getting taken down by copyright BS so I hope it's still up when people get to read this.  Trixie isn't a Dub person though, and as a Dub person I can comment on how "Act Normally" is inherently funny to me because of PLL.  The show might also appeal to people who liked Mr & Mrs Smith.

takt op.Destiny is a show from last year but the Simuldub just started.  I found all three central characters entertaining, and I also got a kick out of the Pilot featuring a setting common to fiction but not necessarily Anime, a midwestern Truck Stop road side Dinner that still has a mildly 50s Aesthetic.  A very specific slice of Americana.

But it's the Sunday show that I really wasn't expecting to be as fascinating as it's first two episodes wound up being, Trapped In A Dating Sim: The World of Otome Games is Tough for Mobs.

The reincarnated as an Otome game Villainess genre really should be and is compelling for the premise of rethinking the Villainess's perspective.  but the only entry in that genre to actually get an Anime so far, Hamefura, as fun as it was did none of that, so far as it appears the real Katerina was destined to be a rotten person before a random Japanese School Girl just stole her life.

This show is NOT that specific sub genre, but actually is putting some thought into the villainess's perspective.  It's drawing attention to how the universe is basically Reverse NTRing her.

That's all my thoughts from episode 2 however, Episode 1 was vert fun but I maybe would have forgotten about it if I hadn't watched it when Episode 2 had already dropped.

Catching ya'll up to speed

I just watched the 8th and final episode of Pokémon Evolutions, and LEAF IS FINALLY ANIMATED!!!!!!  I was not expecting that, I had basically given up hope.  And she was Bad @$$.  They called her Green, but I'm gonna it was Blue in the Japanese, throwing back to the Manga names.

All of Pokemon Evolutions was great, what they chose to do for the Johto Generation last week I found very cool.  I recommend all of it.

I also today watched the first Fate/Grand Order Camelot movie, it was decent.  And the the first episode of Girls Und Panzer Das Finale was also quite fun.

Last Friday I finished Yuki Yuna Is a Hero The Great Mankai Chapter, it was great as well.

Soon after I made my last update I finished Legend of The Legendary Heroes, which it turns is an unfinished Anime, it was fun though.

Besides that's I've mostly been re-watching stuff.  I finished the YU-NO Re-watch I was talking about, then I did Pretear, then Serial Experiments Lain, then Chaos;Head and Chaos;Child and the first few episodes of Godzilla Singular Point.

I'm planning soon to re-watch Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya for Christmas, then probably also Robotics;Notes and Steins;Gate, and Kanon once it starts snowing here, I want to re-watch that show in the proper seasonal mood.  I think I'm gonna wait till sometime in January to start Binge watching a bunch of Fall and Summer 2021 shows i haven't finished or in some cases even started yet.

Outside the realm of Anime, Wheel of Time I can't make a verdict on yet, my feels towards it are mixed.  The Dune movie was very good though I have some complaints, and Matrix Resurrections was great, to me it was the perfect way to epilogue to the trilogy.

Overdue update

If my blog has regular followers, you've probably deduced I've given up on consistently posting updates on my Seasonal Anime viewing.

I've dedicated to start more often waiting to binge.  I've finished the simuldubs I was following and all of them were good shows.  I'm now only still following Yuki Yuna is A Hero and once that ends I'll probably be following nothing for awhile.

The shows I do want to still follow weekly are ones that are more episodic with minimal overarching plot.  But it's difficult to know what shows are going to be like that up front, your seasonal round up videos on AniTube are usually going off just pilots.  I do know I'll at least start the new PreCure.

LN adaptations I would be interested in binging by Novel or Arc, if I can know for certain when a given arc ends.

In the meantime I've bouncing around between semi-binges.  Re-watching YU-NO as I already mentioned and I may have even more to say primarily about that show, I've also obtained the Switch version of the VN which I'll give a try after finishing the re-watch.  I'm also 7 episodes into EdensZero and 20 into Legend of The Legendary Heroes.

I also watched D-Frag which I think is the most underrated comedy Anime of the 20tens.  I watched the movie Aura: Koga Maryuin's Last War which was good, what distinguished it from Love, Chunibyo and Other Delusions can't be communicated by a plot description, it has a very different tone which makes it a good a companion piece.  I also enjoy what I've seen of Sabagebu and would like to see it get dubbed.  Also the show Shattered Angels is fantastic Shoujo Melodrama with cool action thrown in.

On November 19th (today as I'm typing this and hoping still when it will be posted) I watched the first three episodes of Wheel of Time on Amazon and all 10 episodes of Netflix's Cowboy bebop.

WoT is one of those classic Fantasy franchises I have bene aware of for a long time.  These opening episodes are interesting,  I don't think it'll feel worthy of it's source material's legacy till we actually visit a setting that makes me go "wow, that could have been in a movie".

Cowboy Bebop I decided needed the perspective of someone not simply comparing it to the original all the time, a role I've given myself before.  It's a fun Space Western with likeable characters, that is perhaps goofier then some old school fans would prefer, but it does get serious when it needs to.

Cowboy Bebop was originally a homage to certain American genres like Western and Film Noirs and other pulpy stuff.  This show having more "Whedonesque" dialogue then the original fits how those genres have changed.  We're now in the era of Guardians of The Galaxy rather then The Fifth Element.

Anime Update for last two weeks

YuYuYu season 3 episode3 continues the saga of Mebuki-San, and it’s pretty good.  It was also amusing to see our usual Hero Club from an outside perspective.

Million Lives Isekai episode 20 was decent.

The third episode of The Detective Is Already Dead wasn’t as good as the first two.

Battle Game in 5 Seconds episode 8 was good.

I checked out the first 3 episodes of Pokemon Evolutions, and they were pretty good.

The Saints Magic Power is Omnipotent episode 11 was neat.

And Slime Incarnation episode 44 was also fun.

The fourth episode of Pokemon Evolutions was nice.

Episode 4 of YuYuYu season 3 jumped around a bit.

Episode 21 of Million Lives Isekai was fine I guess.  I think I might be about ready to move this show to On Hold.

The Penultimate episode of SSSS.Dynazenon was pretty good.

Realist Hero episode 7 was interesting.

I’ve moved The Detective is Already Dead to On Hold.  Both of the first two episodes were great, but once I found out this is another one not consistently coming out every week, I decided episode 3 wasn’t compelling enough for me to keep up with it.

Well I watched Loups-Garous for the heck of it, and it was good.

Battle Game episode 9 was good, but the CGi animation for the big guy wasn’t pretty, it gave me flashbacks to the latter part of SpiderChan.

I’ve finished The Saint’s Magic Power is Omnipotent and rated it as Very Good.

SlimeIncarnation episode 45 was pretty Dope.
